At Broad Street Ministry we offer two kinds of Immersion Experiences a two day weekend experience during the school year or a longer experience in the summer.
2009-2010 Weekend Registration Form found here!
Weekends are:

Friday night begins with an engaging tour of the BSM neighborhood which explores the complexity of being a church in the growing and changing setting of downtown Philadelphia. The evening ends with a commissioning service led by BSM musicians and staff. Friday night prepares the youth for service and theological reflection the next day. Groups should arrive no later than 7 pm.
Saturday will provide hands-on experiences that raise awareness of social injustice and economic inequalities in an urban setting. With an eye toward going deeper than a charitable gesture or a community service fulfillment, this time will offer an opportunity to encounter the presence of Christ alongside the marginalized and explore the radical challenge of living out the Christian faith. Projects might include park clean up, eating with the homeless, creating urban art, childrens' organizations and others.

The summer immersion program begins with our regular Sunday evening worship service. Groups should arrive by 5 pm. We provide several days of service learning and opportunities for authentic relationship building with the people of Philadelphia. An effort will be made to take groups to different neighborhoods in the city and discuss poverty, homelessness, hunger, and health care all grounded within a theological framework. A particular goal will be to engage youth with the poor and disadvantaged who are trying to make a difference in their community through social action. Stereotypes will be broken not re-enforced. The week will end in a service of commissioning to send students back to their own communities where faithful transformation may continue. The BSM Youth Initiative is born out of a local congregation that values worship, hospitality, community, diversity, social justice, risk, creativity and the arts.
BSM will provide a place for groups to sleep, eat and shower. Youth will be supervised at all times. The BSM Design Team will plan and create the entire program for each group, including a free afternoon.
