“"EXECUTE ART, NOT PEOPLE"
@ Broad Street Ministry
315 South Broad Street b/t Spruce and Pine
6:00pm -8:00pm

“"EXECUTE ART, NOT PEOPLE"” is a unique way to remember the death of Jesus on the cross at the hands of his government. BSM will gather Philadelphia to hear from two former death row inmates, Shujaa Graham and Darby Tillis who were exonerated by DNA evidence, will be speaking about their personal stories and reflections on the penal system/death penalty. There will be music, art, conversation, and ways to get involved in this issue that makes our society more brutal and less just.

The event is a collaboration of Pennsylvanians Against the Death Penalty (PADP), Broadstreet Ministry (BSM), and Witness to Innocence (WTI).

We want different artists to showcase their vision for a different society, a different world, beginning in Philadelphia.

Is BSM A Faith Community or a Hair Salon?
Would you believe BOTH?

Part of the magic of Breaking Bread is that it is so much more than a delicious meal. Every Thursday 200+ of our friends who are suffering from homelessness gather around round table and share in a great meal. But on hand there are also what we call Life-Enhancing/Transforming Services. Therapeutic arts, Meditation, Legal and Benefits services…you get the idea. And now…thanks to a little creativity and know-how from our own Bruce Clark (pictured) BSM now does HAIR! Sure its in the boiler room, sure it won't make any money (free haircuts!) but we think its awesome. If you want to be a part of Breaking Bread, contact Wendy Gaynor at wendy@broadstreetministry.org or Laura Markle Downton at Laura.Downton@broadstreetministry.org

PLACES EVERYONE PLACES!
Open Auditions for BSM’s Musical Theater Extravaganza QUIXOTE!!

BSM'er and Director extraordinaire—Lear deBessonet wants you to audition. Can you let us know if you want to audition? Day and night audition times are flexible…just email events@broadstreetministry.org ok?

“TEACH US TO PRAY”
We say the Lord's Prayer every week in worship. Have you ever thought about what you're saying? And why do some people say "trespasses" and others say "debts"? Join Laura Powell to get a better sense of the power of this community statement as we dig deep into this classic prayer.

“IT SAYS WHAT?”
Face it. Some stories in the Bible are just plain weird. On first reading, they just don't make sense. Liam O'Donnell has the key to unlock the mystery. Come read and discuss four awkward stories from Scripture and learn why they matter for the church, the world and you.

Who: All are welcome. Participants are encouraged to attend all four sessions, but if you can only make one or two, no problem.

And bring your friends.

NO HOLDS BARRED BIBLE STUDY: TRY IT!
Every Wednesday
6:00 Dinner • 6:30 Study and Prayer

Bible Study?! How can that be something you would want to come out for? Whether you are a scholar or just curious or have serious issues with the Bible, you are welcome to this gathering. There is diversity of every kind at this study. Come out! We encourage a diversity of views and asking hard questions with humility. The text we examine is the text to be meditated upon on the coming Sunday.

Plus—there is free dinner. It is a great group—just try it?! You might like it.

COUNSELING SERVICES HAVE ARRIVED AT BSM
Over the last few weeks Edd Conboy, a counselor on staff at Council for Relationships (CfR) who will direct the counseling services at Broad Street Ministry, has been working with members of our community to implement a plan to introduce counseling services at BSM. The new counseling office is located inside the BSM building and you can certainly stop by (just ask where to go).

As the program evolves over the next few months, other experienced therapists and skilled interns from Council for Relationships will be available to provide high quality counseling at several locations. And in alignment with our “no barriers” commitment, no one will be denied the opportunity to participate because of financial considerations. Low fee and scholarship options are available.

Here are just a few of the issues and concerns that you may want to address with one of our counselors, either individually or with your partner or family:

  • Feeling anxious or blue
  • Worrying about vocational or career issues
  • Living with HIV
  • Experiencing relationship problems or
  • Wanting more from your intimate relationship
  • Grieving a loss
  • Surviving (and thriving) after trauma
  • Family transitions or concerns
  • Diversity Issues and Intermarriage
  • Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Issues
  • Sex Therapy
  • Anger management
  • Parenting concerns
  • Feeling lonely or isolated
  • Conflicts with relationships at work or school

Getting started is easy. Just call Edd at 215.735.4847 or email counseling@broadstreetministry.org. Some evening appointments will also be available.

Give us a call. Let's talk.
