Becca Blake’s “See You Later” Letter

Dear BSM Family:

I’m writing to you to let you know that I will be leaving my position as the Facilitator of Transformative Arts at the end of February 2014. My last day will be Thursday, February 20^th. Feel free to stop by to say “see you later” (“goodbye”s are not my strong suit) and check out all the goodness that has been going on at the art table lately.

In 2010, BSM helped me and a few others launch a project that has become Beacon, a new church development of the PCUSA. As I hope to be ordained soon, if the way be clear, and as the work and ministry of Beacon continues to grow, it is time to invest more of my time and energy there. I first came to BSM as a congregant in 2007, became an intern in 2008 and then a staff member in 2009. The decision to leave was not an easy one, but I am excited about the futures of both Beacon and BSM. I am also confident that I am leaving BSM’s art table in good hands as Brenna McGinnis steps into my position.  Please welcome her with all of the warmth and kindness that you’ve shown me over the past 7 years.

If you’ll indulge me, I have a few words of gratitude to extend to you:

Thanks to the multitude of volunteers who have come through over the years. I learned so much from you, and your dedication, spirit, kindness, and willingness to learn has been such a tremendous gift. It’s been such a joy working with you.

I extend many, many thanks to everyone who has ever made art at the art table or in worship. You trusted me to create a safe space in which you could try something new and uncomfortable. I am always amazed that you give me such a precious gift of your trust. You make this world more beautiful just by being in it, and I am so grateful that I was able to work alongside you to express that beauty so that all may see it.

Thank you to the BSM team of extremely dedicated staff, especially Dwayne, Erika, Bill, and Edd. You gave me so much freedom to dream and to do.  You taught me to be unafraid of failure, to take risks and trust in God’s provision, and believe in what I hoped to be true: that the creative process, when experienced in community, transforms us all.

These few and humble words can barely get at the gratitude I feel for having been a part of this family for so long. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
